In 1957, Catholic Memorial established the Glee Club, the first extracurricular activity created for students. Dr. Berj Zamkochian, a world-class performer who played in front of pope and presidents, served as the conductor. Under Zamkochian’s direction, the Glee Club performed at Symphony Hall and recorded an album.
Since the early success of the Glee Club, CM’s music program has expanded. CM musicians perform with a variety of groups and ensembles. The music program includes both instrumental and vocal opportunities. The musical groups perform their own concerts both on and off campus as well as collaborate with our CM student groups. The Jazz Ensemble provides accompaniment for the school’s spring musical.
In addition to extracurricular opportunities, students have the option to study music theory and composition through one of the music electives. CM graduates have gone to study music collegiately at schools such as Harvard University, the University of California, and Berklee College of Music.
