“Sea of Red” Raises Over $17,000 For Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
CM continues to be a leader when it comes to fundraising for breast cancer research and services.
After 25 visits to the Hatch Shell, Catholic Memorial has hit a milestone in their fundraising work for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.
This year, CM raised over $17,000 for breast cancer research and services provided by the American Cancer Society, the school’s highest fundraising total since 2014. CM has now raised over $300,000 since 2001 and remains not only one of the top fundraising schools but one of the best fundraising organizations that participates in the Boston walk.
“It is moving to see the Catholic Memorial community continue to engage in such a beautiful display of advocacy and solidarity. The Sea of Red is alive and well, raising more money this year than we have in any of the past 10 years,” says Director of Campus Ministry David Aspinall. “It is a promising indication that CM is increasingly committed to this vital form of ministry, and we are humbled that our Campus Ministry program can serve as a modest instrument of God's work in this meaningful way.”
Since 2001, CM’s presence at Making Strides has evolved from a modest showing to an unmissable Sea of Red that regularly included over 200 students and energizes everyone around them with their positivity and excitement for the event.
In 2020, the American Cancer Society named CM a “National Leader” for their extraordinary efforts in the fight against breast cancer. CM is recognized yearly as part of the American Cancer Society’s High School Challenge, which honors fundraising efforts by local high school.
Fundraising efforts were organized by Aspinall and the Office of Campus Ministry. The three top individual fundraisers for the Sea of Red were Spencer Mollor ’29 ($1,814.88), Jack West ’27 (1,642.39), and Augie Davis '28 (1,549.51). The team ranked sixth among the 414 teams that participated in the walk.
CM prepares students for the rigors of college and beyond. While here, boys embark on service-learning opportunities, leadership development, and character formation programs inspiring them to become confident, courageous young men motivated to do good in the world.
Catholic Memorial, the Christian Brothers School of Boston, prepares boys for college, manhood and a world full of unknown challenges, ambiguity and complex problems and the importance of relationships.
