Knights Football defeats Hartford (VT) in season opener
Michael Dermody
Without injuries to both starting quarterback Matt Marcantano '17 and backup Lucas Currier '16, the CM Football team went into their season opener versus Hartford, Vermont with a big question mark at the quarterback position.
That question would be answered on the first drive of the night as Brant Keough '18 got the start and marched CM's offense down the field capped off by a Curt Bletzer '16 touchdown run to give the Knights an early 7-0 lead.
Keough '18, a sophomore, had the luxury of playing quarterback last year for new Varsity Head Coach Dennis Golden as a member of the Freshman team which Golden coached last fall.
It showed as Keough looked smooth in the passing game all night and scored a touchdown on a quarterback keeper with 0:21 left in the first half to give CM a 14-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, the CM defense provided some offense of their own as Jack McNeil returned an interception for a touchdown to give the Knights a 27-0 lead.
The game would end with a final of 27-0, the Knights first shutout in over six years.
With the win the team improves to 1-0 and will next take on St. John's Shrewsbury at home on September 19 at 2pm.
