CM Celebrates 52nd Olympic Day

Students and faculty continued one of Catholic Memorial's longest-running traditions today, celebrating Olympic Day for a 52nd consecutive year.

Classmates became competitors as students split into five teams representing Botswana, Brazil, China, Ireland, and the United States.

The day began with the opening ceremonies — the March of Countries into the Ronald S. Perry Gymnasium followed by a pie-eating competition won, once again, by Mr. Mark Smith '88. The Campus Ministry team then raffled off the opportunity to throw pies in the faces of Mr. Andrew O'Brien, Mr. Brad O'Brien '06, and Mr. Alex Strum. After all the pies had been eaten and thrown, teams hit the fields for competition.

The seniors made a strong showing this year, avenging last year's defeat on the volleyball court and allowing the faculty only one victory all day — in the Spike Ball competition.

After all the points were tallied, Team Botswana was named Champion, narrowly edging Team U.S.A. to take home the Olympic Day trophy.
