Sullivan Wins Manhattan Invite "E" Race; XC Team Takes Fourth Place

Sullivan cleared the 2.5-mile course in 12:57.1 and the team had five runners in the top 40.
Manhattan, N.Y. — The Catholic Memorial Cross Country team left New York City with medals around their necks following Saturday’s performance at the Manhattan College Invitational in Van Courtland Park.

The Knights finished fourth in the meet’s “E” Division race and were led by first-place finisher junior Chris Sullivan, who completed the 2.5-mile course in 12:57.1. Junior John Garvey took 18th place with a time of 14:01.5.

CM’s remaining three scorers crossed the finish line within five seconds of each other. Senior Joseph Connolly, junior Dean Simmons, and senior Michael Bane cleared the course in 14:31.7, 14:35.9, and 14:36.8, good enough for 37th-39th place.

Junior Williams Cummings finished in 84th place with a time of 15:55.5 and senior Ryan Flynn was 96th with a time of 16:24.4.

In the freshmen boys’ 1.25-mile “C” Division race, eighth-grader Brian Wukitch and freshman Rudy Demeo clocked the fastest times for the Knights, coming in 49th and 53rd with times of 7:46.8 and 7:51.4.

CM will return to their home course at Franklin Park on October 16th for the 60th edition of the Catholic Memorial Invitational.
