Kurtis Henderson leads Knights over Spartans in Home Opener

Underclassmen played a significant role in the second half of CM’s 96-81 victory over Bishop Stang at the Ronald S. Perry Gymnasium on Friday night.

Sophomore captain Kurtis Henderson put on a show when he scored 24 of his 41 points in the second half. He finished the game 12-for-17 from the free-throw line.

Friday night was Henderson’s second 30-plus point performance of the season. Junior Spencer Aronson added 16 points for the Knights, drilling three three-point field goals in the third quarter as a part of a CM 18-6 run.

CM began to pull away after a series of press breaks, leading 71-54 after the third quarter. However, Bishop Stang went on a run of its own. The Spartans wiped out a 20 point deficit and cut the Knights’ lead to single digits with two minutes left. The two teams traded baskets in a fast-paced, run-and-gun tempo all game long.

Justin Lopes led the way for the Spartans with 20 points and 6 assists, while Damien Perry contributed 18 points and 5 assists in the losing effort.

The Knights withstood Bishop Stang’s last push, icing the game with free throws, making 21 out of 25 attempts in the fourth quarter.
CM advances to 2-0, while Bishop Stang falls to 0-1 on the young season.

The Knights look to stay unbeaten as they take on the West Roxbury Academy Raiders on Monday evening at West Roxbury Academy.
