Wrentham, Mass. — The Catholic Memorial Cross Country team continued their 2021 campaign with strong running that resulted in personal bests and a first-place finish at Saturday's Bay State Invitational at the Wrentham Developmental Center.
The Knights took first place in the Green Division with five runners for CM finishing in the top 30.
Junior and defending Catholic Conference Champion Chris Sullivan led the way for the Knights, posting a season’s best 5K time of 15:56 and finishing second in the division. Junior John Garvey took sixth place with a time of 16:50.
Senior Michael Bane finished in 17th place at 17:33, while senior Joseph Connolly and junior Dean Simmons were the fourth and fifth Knights to cross the finish line, and 25th and 26th overall with times of 17:52 and 17:57.
On the team front, the Knights scored 70 points to earn a 34-point win over runner-up Brockton. Milton finished third with 139 points.
Up next for the Knights is a dual meet on the road against St. John’s Prep on October 5, followed by a trip to Van Cortland Park in New York City for the Manhattan Invitational on October 9. CM will return to the Wrentham Developmental Center for the Division 1 and All-State meets in November.
