CM Recognized as Making Strides' Top Fundraising High School

Catholic Memorial continues to be recognized for their efforts helping those battling breast cancer.

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk Boston recently announced that CM was the top fundraising high school for the 2022 edition of the walk and took first place in their high school challenge. Last year, CM raised $10,000 for the American Cancer Society.

“A big part of our school’s mission is leading through service. The walk has been a pivotal moment for our school community to give back to those suffering from breast cancer,” says Michael Dermody ‘07, director of Campus Ministry. “This event has been part of our school for a long time, so to be recognized as the top donating school is an honor.”

Since CM’s first walk in 2001, the school has become one of the most recognizable and largest groups at the walk. What started as a single bus of students has grown into a “Sea of Red” made of hundreds of CM students, staff, and community members walking in support of those fighting breast cancer and a strong fundraising effort led by the school's campus ministry and peer ministers. Across 22 years of participation, the school has raised $275,000 for breast cancer research and services.

In 2020, the American Cancer Society named the school a “National Leader” in the fight against breast cancer. 

“We're grateful to the students, faculty, and extended school community for so passionately supporting Making Strides. We look forward to seeing Team CM at the 2023 walk!” the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Boston organization said in a statement.

The school will be formally recognized at the 2023 walk at the Hatch Memorial Shell this September.
