Jim Blue ’82

Jim, or Jamie as he is known to his classmates, enrolled at CM as a freshman in 1978. While at CM, golf and wrestling were his favored sports, and he jokes that the school’s “Justice Under God” program for minor infractions and detention often became an added sport. Jim’s brother, Chris ’85, followed him to CM and they share many fond memories of their CM years.

He studied finance and marketing at Boston College and began his career as a Prudential Insurance agent in 1986. In addition to academic study, Jim brought real world experience from working as a golf caddie at Woodland Golf Club and in a variety of roles at Star Market.  Both of these roles had a profound impact on his career and success.

After two years with Prudential, Jim joined the Bostonian Group, a small insurance brokerage company in downtown Boston.  Shortly thereafter, Jim took over ownership and spent the next 20 years transforming the Bostonian Group it into a major New England multi-disciplined firm offering clients a wholistic approach capable of creatively solving any problem in areas of employee benefits, retirement, wealth management, and property & casualty services.  Jim has both his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) designations.  In 2010, his firm, the Bostonian Group, became one of the early acquisitions of Marsh & McLennan Agency and immediately became the New England “Hub” where Jim served as the CEO of the New England Region for 8 years.  Since 2018, Jim has been the President of Alera Group, a national insurance and financial services firm made up of 179 entrepreneurial firms across the U.S.

Throughout his career, Jim has served CM and on a variety of community boards, often in key leadership and fundraising roles. At CM he has served on the Golf Committee and his Reunion Committee. Jim played a vital role in CM’s 2006 strategic plan during his term on CM’s Board and as Board Chair. In total Jim spent 11 years as a board member. Other community boards include Boston Medical Center, Rodman for Kids and Community Connections Foundation.  He recently completed a 10+ year board connection to the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund.  Currently, he serves on the boards of both Commodore Builders and Sacconnesset Golf Club.

Jim Lives in Westwood, MA with his wife, Kris, and their four adult children – Katie, Matt, Meghan and Timothy.
