A message from Athletic Director Thomas Claiborne:
It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Catholic Memorial’s next Head Varsity Soccer Coach, Brian Powers as well as Wagner Brito as its Associate Head Coach.
Mr. Powers currently teaches history at CM and serves as its varsity lacrosse coach. He was named the 2022 Catholic Conference’s Coach of the Year and has an extensive track record in coaching excellence. Mr. Powers has a strong background and dedication to the game of soccer. He grew up playing club soccer for Sachems FC and was a four-year varsity soccer letter winner at the Middlesex School. He was honored twice by the Independent School League and earned all ISL honors, while serving as the captain of the team. A three-sport high school varsity athlete, Mr. Powers chose to play lacrosse at Tufts University. As a player and, eventually, a Tufts assistant coach, Mr. Powers helped the nationally competitive program win three NESCAC Championships. We are thrilled to have Coach Powers bring his passion, skill, expertise, and dedication to lead Catholic Memorial’s soccer program.
We are equally pleased to announce Wagner Brito as our Associate Head Coach after serving as an assistant varsity coach this past season. Coach Brito has an extensive background and has experience in soccer coaching, skills development, and training. As the founder of Audax Futbol Training Academy, he has gained expertise in player development with middle and high school aged boys. Coach Brito also serves as a Director of Juventus Academy Boston. He previously served in a similar capacity in the Valeo Futball Club, where he was recognized for coaching several top ranked teams in the state. Many of his former athletes are now competing in colleges and universities across the country.
As a school community, we are committed to our student-athletes and have assembled an exceptional coaching tandem to lead CM’s soccer program. I look forward to partnering with these two coaches and introducing them to all CM soccer players in the coming days.
CM prepares students for the rigors of college and beyond. While here, boys embark on service-learning opportunities, leadership development, and character formation programs inspiring them to become confident, courageous young men motivated to do good in the world.
Catholic Memorial, the Christian Brothers School of Boston, prepares boys for college, manhood and a world full of unknown challenges, ambiguity and complex problems and the importance of relationships.
