Tim Hegarty '66, P'97, GP'24, '27

While at CM, Tim played basketball under legendary CM coach Ron Perry, graduating in 1966. Shortly after that, as a young entrepreneur, Tim, and his CM’66 classmate Paul Chisholm co-founded a small lawn care business calling it C&T Lawn Service, short for  (“Chis” and “Tim”). The proceeds of mowing lawns around Jamaica Plain help fund their college educations at Boston College.

After majoring in economics, Tim earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Boston College Law School in 1973. Tim began his professional career as Vice President of Malmart Mortgage, a minority-owned lender before transitioning into real estate law as an Assistant Attorney General and ultimately being appointed Chief of the Attorney General’s Insurance Division. In 1984, he moved on to the private sector joining The Norfolk & Dedham Group® which traces its origins to a local property casualty insurance company founded in Dedham in 1825, later serving as its President from 1990 to 2017 and eventually as its Board Chair. Tim has held important leadership roles in the insurance industry, including leading the Boards of the Automobile Insurance Bureau, the Mutual Fire Insurance Association, the Massachusetts Fair Plan, and the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies. Tim has also served on the Boards of Dedham Co-operative Bank and Needham Co-operative Bank.

Throughout that time, Tim maintained an active role with Catholic Memorial. He served as the Chair of CM’s Board of Trustees in the late 1990s before joining the CM School Foundation Board. He currently serves on CM’s Sponsors Council, a group that provides oversight for CM’s governance practices and coordinates with the councils from other Christian Brothers high schools across North America. Tim has also served on the Board of Clear Path for Veterans and the First Green Charitable Foundation.

While enjoying time on Cape Cod in the summer, Tim and his wife Mary are Needham residents and proud parents of their daughters Julie and Kit and son Mark Hegarty CM ’97 and their nine grandchildren including grandsons Brendan CM ’24 and Liam CM ’27 McKinney.
