College Counseling
Philosophy
We believe a successful college selection experience is rooted in discernment, collaboration, and informed decision making. Our goal is not to out-strategize an admissions office to win their acceptance, but rather to bring clarity to an intimidating process so a student feels empowered by his choice. CM counselors provide personalized support as we walk along the path to college acceptances together as trusted partners.
Discernment
Our Grade 11 Theology curriculum challenges students to answer the "3 Key Questions" from Fr. Michael Himes: What brings me joy? What am I good at? What does the world need me to be? Working together in the spring of a student's junior year, counselors adapt those answers to a student's college search with a focus on finding the appropriate fit for each student. Our students make their decisions from a position of strength and clarity.
Collaboration
Choosing a college is often the largest decision of a student's life, so you'll have questions! Our counselors meet with students and families as often as necessary to build a team grounded in mutual, honest feedback. Additionally, through our "Counselor Coffee" webinar series with admissions officials, we bring expert, updated advice about the process to our students and families so decisions are made with confidence.
Data-Driven
Is there an art to working with a student through his college selection experience? Of course! But it's also a science, and our counselors are well-researched as we stay up-to-date with admissions trends and practices. When we answer a question, we strive to get it right and tell you why so we can evaluate data and make informed choices together.
Become a Man of Action at Catholic Memorial
CM prepares students for the rigors of college and beyond. While here, boys embark on service-learning opportunities, leadership development, and character formation programs inspiring them to become confident, courageous young men motivated to do good in the world.
