CM Summer Programs

CM is offering virtual  Enrichment Workshops throughout the summer. All Athletic Clinics scheduled for June and July have been cancelled. We will host lacrosse and hockey clinics in August. 

Enrichment Workshops


Enrichment workshops allow students to develop or enhance writing, art, and public speaking skills. Workshop options open to boys and girls entering grades 5-12.

  • College Essay Workshop: July 13 - 16 (Coed, Grade 12)

    Get a jump start on the college application process.  Make good use of your time this summer and craft a personal statement that introduces you to college admissions officers.  This virtual class will help you to allow your voice to emerge from the page by selecting a strong topic  and demonstrating your writing skills.  By the end of the course, you will have a working draft of your college essay that has been peer-reviewed and edited by your instructor.The workshop runs Monday through Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. Workshop cost: $275. Contact Ms. Leslye Porter with questions.

               
                   
  • 7th/8th Grade English: July 27 - 31 (Coed)

    The 7/8th grade virtual English course is designed for students entering 7/8th grade who need to improve their English grammar and writing skills. Students will review vocabulary, basic grammar, basic writing skills, paragraph unity and coherence. Students will also read short works of fiction and write critical analysis on their reading. The course runs Monday through Friday from 9:45 - 11:15 a.m. Workshop cost $190.   • 7th/8th Grade Math: July 27- 31 (Coed)

    Intended for rising 7th and 8th graders, this virtual course is designed to help augment what your child learned in their Pre-Algebra and Algebra courses, including both solving and graphing concepts like algebraic equations, inequalities, linear equations and systems of equations. The course runs Monday through Friday from 8 - 9:30 a.m. Workshop cost $190.   • Critical Making Workshop: August 10 - 13 (Boys, Grade 8 - 9)

    The Critical Making Workshop is designed for new students entering CM's 8th or 9th grade. The workshop provides an opportunity to experience the Critical Making courses our 7th and 8th graders take during the academic year to provide students with a foundation of skills in design engineering, process-thinking, and problem solving. Students will work on two projects taken from the Critical Making course curriculum. Workshop cost: $325
  • Photoshop Workshop: August 10 - 13 (Coed, Grades 6 - 9)

    This is an introductory course to digital art. Students will discover secrets of digital magic that is Photoshop! Students will create original work by using tools in Photoshop and preexisting sources such as photographs or scanned artwork. Students will get a chance to make their own comics, movie posters, CD covers, and more! The workshop runs from Monday through Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. Workshop cost $200. Contact Ms. Cassy Akouri with questions.
  • HS Study Skills: August 17 - 20 (Coed)

    This virtual class will teach essential study and organizational skills, and will provide students with the solid foundation necessary for them to become an independent learner and achieve academic success. The course will discuss:
    • in school vs. online skills
    • highlighting and note taking
    • note taking during a teacher’s lecture
    • active reading / annotating novels
    • the “must dos” for each class (i.e. English vs. math)
    • effective studying techniques for quizzes, tests, midterms, and final exams
    • value of homework and how to use it when preparing for an assessment
    • managing groups projects 
    • prepare for extra help session with teachers
    • advocate for oneself in an out of the class
    • email a teacher to schedule an extra help session
    • time management 
    • maximize time in study hall
    Intended for students entering grades 9 through 12, this class is for students entering middle school who desire seeking provide a successful transition, students who do not possess these valuable skills and experienced academic challenges, academically strong students, who aspire to reach a higher level of success, and seniors in high school, who recognize the importance of having these skills in order to be a successful college student  Students will be encouraged to use their own materials (i.e. summer reading book) to practice these skillsThe course runs Monday through Thursday from 3 - 4 p.m. Workshop cost $160.   • MS Study Skills: August 17 - 20 (Coed)

Athletic Clinics

In August, CM will host lacrosse and hockey clinics according to state guidelines.

  • Lacrosse Clinic: August 3 -5

    Catholic Memorial’s Lacrosse Clinic will teach players the great game of lacrosse and develop their skills to bring their game to the next level. The clinic will provide players with individual instruction and team fundamentals. Whether you are just picking up a stick or preparing for varsity tryouts, this clinic is designed to benefit all skill levels. The clinic stresses the values of sportsmanship, leadership, and teamwork. CM Head Lacrosse Coach Matt Callahan will lead the clinic. Mr. Callahan has been an assistant lacrosse coach at both Tufts and Brown. He has coached two National Championship Teams and coached many All-American players. In college, he was a 3-time NESCAC League Champion, recipient of the USILA Stiles Memorial Award as the Nation’s Most Outstanding DIII Defender. He was a two-time 1st Team All American and a USILA Scholar All-American (Clinic runs Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.).
  • Hockey Clinic: August 17 -20

    Join Head Coach Larry Rooney and varsity players for CM's Summer Hockey Clinic. Players at all skill levels are welcome. Players will practice fundamental skills of skating, stickhandling, passing, and shooting. In addition to skills, players will engage in drills designed to create situational awareness. The clinic runs Monday through Thursday. The clinic is 90 minutes in length. There will be two sessions divided by age groups. Session 1 - 5:00pm - 6:20pm: Skaters born '09-'11 Session 2 - 6:30pm - 7:50pm: Skaters born '06-'08
