Dr. Peter Folan, President

Dr. Folan earned his undergraduate degree at Boston College. Dr. Folan was a scholar-athlete and a four-year member of the Boston College varsity wrestling team. Dr. Folan went on to earn his Master’s degree from BC’s Lynch School of Education. His studies focused on curriculum and instructions and secondary English. Building on his experience as a student and teacher in all-boys schools, Dr. Folan earned his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania. His dissertation at the Ivy League institution focused on the effects that New England all-boys schools have on boys as they enter post-secondary institutions. Dr. Folan has served in a variety of administrative positions both in the high school setting and at the university level over the past sixteen years. He has worked in the areas of Admissions, Residential life, Academic Advising, Dean of Students Office, and in Boston College’s Division of Mission and Ministry. Dr. Folan brings his extensive pedagogical research and experience to Catholic Memorial. He has taught every grade level from seventh graders through seniors in college.

Andrew O'Brien, Principal & Assistant Head of School

Mr. Andrew O’Brien is a graduate of Bowdoin College, where he majored in Economics and served as Captain of the lacrosse team. He was an all NESCAC player and Honorable Mention All-American Athlete. He earned his Masters from Boston College in Educational leadership. He taught, coached, and served as the Associate Director of Admissions at Salisbury School. He was the Assistant Director of Financial Aid at Boston College and was the Director of Admission at the Xaverian Brothers School. 

Brian Palm, Assistant Head of School and Head of the Middle School

Mr. Brian Palm's strong interest in student-centered, 21st Century Learning is combined with a facilities management approach that encourages the development of a durable campus with sustainability at its core. Having served as chairman of the science department at both the Brooks School in North Andover and Maimonides School in Brookline, Mr. Palm has been recognized as an NAIS Teacher of the Future, Amgen Award recipient for Science Teaching Excellence, and Siemen’s Award winner for AP Teachers. Mr. Palm serves as a consultant for the College Board and the Mass Math & Science Initiative as an instructor for new and experienced AP Environmental Science teachers. Mr. Palm is a graduate of Dartmouth College where he earned his degree in Environmental Biology and Geography. He earned a Masters in Science from Oxford University (UK) in Environmental Policy and Management with a focus on energy policy.

Jack Moynihan '81, P'18, Vice President of Institutional Advancement

Mr. Jack Moynihan returns to Catholic Memorial to lead our philanthropic and engagement efforts. Prior to returning to Baker Street, Jack was the Vice Chancellor of Advancement and Executive Director of the UMass Dartmouth Foundation at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. In this role, he oversaw all development and alumni relations efforts, and executed a year-long, pre-campaign assessment for the university.  Previously, Jack was the Vice President of Alumni Relations and The Northeastern Fund at Northeastern University. He was a member of the leadership team that launched the successful Empower Campaign while overseeing an extensive annual Fund program and alumni outreach serving over 222,000 alumni throughout the world. During his tenure, annual fund support grew dramatically while initiatives such as the Parents Fund,  Student Philanthropy, Regional and International Chapters, and innovative fundraising and communication strategies were implemented. Prior to his tenure at Northeastern University, Jack worked at Boston College and Tufts University in key alumni relations positions. He is a graduate of Suffolk University and earned his Master’s degree in Public Administration from Northeastern University.

Gloria Riley, Vice Principal of Academic Affairs

Ms. Gloria Riley comes to CM from Elizabeth Seton Academy in Dorchester where she was the Assistant Principal. In this capacity, she mentored new teachers, designed faculty observation evaluations, oversaw curricular mapping, and ministered to all students in grades 9-12. She has taught mathematics at every level and served as the Head of Department for Technical Vocational Studies in a Government Secondary School, Montserrat, in the West Indies. Ms. Riley is a graduate of Leeward Islands Teacher College (West Indies), earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Edna Manley School in Jamaica and a Master’s degree from Savannah College, as a Fulbright Scholar. She has served as an Assistant Examiner for the Caribbean Examination Council. She is a member of the National Teachers of Mathematics, The Association of Teachers of Mathematics in Massachusetts, as well as the Catholic Educators Association.

Karl Danso, Vice Principal for Grades 9-12

Mr. Danso served as the Dean of Students at St. John’s College High School in Washington D.C. prior to his arrival at CM. During his time at St. John’s, he was featured in Bethesda Magazine as one of the magazine’s 2018 Extraordinary Educators. In 2017, he was recognized with the Veteran Teacher of the Year Award by the Archdiocese of Washington. While at Boston College, he worked in the BC Intersections Program where he designed programs on student formation, discernment, AHANA student development, and Christian Service. He is a proud CM alum, graduating in 2004. 

Kevin Durazo, Vice Principal of Mission Integration

Mr. Durazo has a rich background in student formation in middle, high school, and post-secondary education. He worked previously at Boston College, Connecticut College, and Yale University. He earned his undergraduate degree from Boston College and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Ministry from Yale’s School of Divinity. At Yale, Mr. Durazo was mentored and advised by Rev. Tony Jarvis, the esteemed former Headmaster of Roxbury Latin. Mr. Durazo is an exceptional role model, man of character, and a very thoughtful educator with a deep understanding of student formation. He also serves as the Dean of Student Life at the CM middle school.

John Aversa '78, Vice Principal of Technology

Mr. John Aversa in addition to his role as Math and Computer Science Department Chair, and Director of the Scholars Program will also oversee our IT Department and all Academic Technology. Prior to starting at CM, Mr. Aversa served as the Vice President of Information Technology at Emmanuel College. Mr. Aversa has been an adjunct instructor at Boston College, been the Director of Technology of the Wakefield Public School, and taught at Ursuline Academy. Mr. Aversa earned his BA from Boston College in Mathematics graduating Summa Com Laude from the Honors Program. He also has a MS in Computer Science from the Boston College Carroll School of Management. 

Dan Chisholm '03, Director of Marketing & Strategic Communications

Mr. Dan Chisholm is the Director of Marketing & Strategic Communications and oversees CM’s marketing, external communications, and media relations. In this role, he also serves as the editor of CM Magazine. Prior to this role, Mr. Chisholm served as the Director of Admissions where he directed CM’s enrollment management strategy. He joined the CM faculty in 2009 and worked concurrently in the Admissions and Advancement Offices as the Assistant Director of Admissions and Assistant Director of the Annual Fund before becoming the Associate Director of Admissions. In his time at CM, he has taught as a member of the English Department and coached baseball and cross country. He earned his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Notre Dame’s Alliance for Catholic Education program. Prior to CM, he taught English and theology at St. Mary of Carmel Catholic School in Dallas, Texas. He has served as a member of the Boston Foundation’s Teacher Advisory Board and a board member of the Alliance for Catholic Advancement and Admissions Professionals (ACAAP).

Craig Najarian, Athletic Director

Mr. Craig Najarian has extensive experience in athletic administration, having served as AD for three years at Holliston High School and AD at Foxborough High School for five years. Craig has overseen athletic renovation projects, managed extensive budgets, and successfully guided athletic programs for 45 individual teams. In addition to his time as Head Baseball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Holy Cross, Craig served as Assistant Baseball Coach at Boston College, Brandeis University, and Wheaton College. He has deep experience in the college athletic recruitment process and has built great relationships with local college coaches. Craig graduated from St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. where he played varsity baseball and served as a team captain. He earned his Masters in Athletic Administration from Endicott College in Beverly, Mass. Craig is a member of the MIAA Baseball Committee.

Michael Schell, Director of Admissions & Enrollment Management

Mr. Michael Schell taught previously at Groton School and at St. Sebastian’s School, where he served as the Associate Director of College Counseling; taught AP US history, AP Government, and Theology; and head coached Varsity Baseball. Mr. Schell is a graduate of Holy Cross, where he played baseball and was a 3-time Patriot-League All-Academic Team selection. He earned his Masters from Columbia University and founded the non-profit Cannonball Foundation dedicated to expanding student-athletes' college opportunities and leadership skills. He will work directly with families as well as oversee CM’s external relationships with colleges and universities. In this role, he will work with our guidance staff, and our entire school community, on our college counseling process.

Joseph MacDonald '02, Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Joseph P. MacDonald, CPA ’02 returns to Catholic Memorial as its Chief Financial Officer. In that capacity, Mr. MacDonald oversees all financial and business operations for the school. He also leads strategy formation and execution for short-and-long range financial planning. He has spent a majority of his professional career serving mission-based, not-for-profit organizations by providing strategic financial planning, analysis and management. Prior to Catholic Memorial, he’s held roles with a public accounting firm, human service agency and publicly traded media company. Mr. MacDonald holds a BS in Accounting from Salve Regina University and is currently attending the executive MBA program at the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and sits on the Non-profit Accounting and Auditing Committee for the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.
