CM Wrestling Celebrates Two State Champions

Last weekend was a culmination for Catholic Memorial's Josh Bechen. The senior Knight claimed his third State Championship in wrestling—this year in the 182-pound weight class. Bechen pinned his first two opponents in under a minute, and his 21–6 semifinals win set the CM record for career wins at 174, a record previously set by Craig Carpenter '07. Bechen then won 8-0 in the finals.

Bechen is the first three-time State Champion in school history. His victory automatically qualifies him for the Massachusetts Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Overall, CM's wrestling team finished 12th out of about 50 at the MIAA Section D2 Tournament. Ivan Orup '18 finished seventh at 120 pounds, while Caelan Conboy-Depasquale '18 placed sixth at 195 pounds.

Another Knight was crowned champion on Saturday, as Kyle King '22 took first place in the 215-pound weight class at the Massachusetts Youth Wrestling Association State Tournament in Reading. King will advance to the Youth New England Wrestling Championships, held March 10–11 at North Andover High School.
