Thomas Claiborne Named New Athletic Director

After conducting an extensive search, CM is proud to announce that Mr. Thomas Claiborne is the unanimous choice to be our new Athletic Director and lead our storied program into the future.

This comes as Mr. Craig Najarian will step down after eight outstanding years to become the new Athletic Director at the Middlesex School. Mr. Najarian and his family will be moving onto the Concord campus with his daughters enrolling at the co-educational boarding school. We are grateful for Craig’s great efforts and the stellar work he’s done during his tenure. We wish him and his family well.

For the past four years, Mr. Claiborne has worked at CM as a school and guidance counselor. Over the course of his time on Baker Street, he has been CM’s liaison with the NCAA and led our Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) partnerships. He also created and led Catholic Memorial’s HBCU student visit trips to the DC and Virginia areas where the majority of these colleges reside.

Over his tenure, Mr. Claiborne has collaborated on our advising curriculum, created CM’s Black Student Union, participated on service projects, and oversaw the Brotherhood of Ethnic Scholars
Together advisory group. Mr. Claiborne has had a positive impact on the lives of all CM students and has been a dedicated and caring student advocate.

In addition, Mr. Claiborne’s athletic coaching prowess has been on display as a multi-season varsity coach, helping to lead CM’s varsity football and track and field teams. He has worked alongside CM’s
athletic staff on-site supervisors and game day management. Mr. Claiborne was a scholarship athlete at Boston College where he earned his undergraduate degree and then his master’s degree in school counseling (M.Ed.) from the University of Massachusetts Boston. He went on to play professional football for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Catholic Memorial is thrilled to welcome Mr. Claiborne onto its leadership team. His track record working with students and as a coach has prepared him well for this leadership role. CM is also
incredibly proud that Mr. Claiborne will be the first African American athletic director in the Catholic Conference.
