Speech and Debate Team Wins Revere Tournament

Revere, Mass. — In its return following a two-year hiatus from COVID, the Revere Fall Fest Speech Tournament kicked off the Massachusetts Speech and Debate League’s competitive calendar. Picking up where they left off following last year’s campaign, the performance from the Catholic Memorial Speech & Debate team did not disappoint as the defending state champions won the team competition with a runaway victory that included a team-record eight first-place finishes, six runner-up performances, four third-place finishes, and 11 finalists. 
 
National Catholic Forensics League Champion Pat Blomberg ‘24 led the way with a pair of golds, winning Drama and teaming up with Will Cummings ‘23 to take the top prize in Duo. Cummings also earned a silver in Prose. 
 
Also taking the gold for CM were Samson Persson ‘24 in Children’s Literature, Graham Horowitz ‘25 in Declamation, Mark Tierney ‘25 in Group Discussion, Jinzhou Wu ‘24 in Novice Extemporaneous Speaking, Morgan Lenehan ‘25 in Radio and Michael Clinton ‘24 in Song Lyrics  
 
In addition to the first-place finishes, our silver medalists included Chris Boensel ‘24 and Alex Pappas ‘24 in Duo, Michael Schwerdt ‘23 in Impromptu, TJ Elrod ‘24 in Group Discussion, Owen Galvin ‘24 in Informative, and Keane Farley ‘26 in Radio.  
 
Taking the bronze were Jack Judge ‘25 in Extemporaneous Speaking, Aaron Crowley ‘23 in Play Reading, Galvin in Poetry, and Rik Orup ‘24 in Oral Interpretation.  
 
Finalists included Owen Crowley ‘25, Andrew Schwerdt ‘26, Joe Cutting ‘23, Brendan Mukherjee ‘25, Parker Kempf ‘26, Andrew MacDonald ‘26, Alex Landry ‘24, Brendan Jolley ‘24, Aidan Floyd ‘23, Jim Linehan ‘24 and Sam Gonser ‘24.  
 
Next up for CM Speech and Debate is the Gracia Burkill Tournament at Natick High School on November 12.
