Sullivan Defends Catholic Conference XC Title; Team Takes Third

C.J. Sullivan won his second Catholic Conference championship by two seconds and the team took third place overall.
Boston, Mass. — Led by one of the fastest runners in Massachusetts, the Catholic Memorial Cross Country team started their postseason the best way possible - with some of their best times of the season.

The team finished in third place at Saturday’s Catholic Conference Championship at Franklin Park in Boston. The very competitive race saw St. John’s Prep win the team title with 32 points and BC High finish with 61 points, 10 points ahead of CM’s 71 points.

Junior C.J. Sullivan was the first runner to complete the 5K course, winning his second conference title in as many years with a season’s best time of 15:48.11. The race quickly developed into a one-on-one race between Sullivan and St. John Prep senior Charlie Tuttle, but Sullivan was able to get some separation and made it to the finish line a little more than two seconds before Tuttle. Sullivan was also named the Catholic Conference MVP.

CM junior John Garvey took 10th place with a time of 17:02.73. Senior Joseph Connolly came in 15th with a time to 17:13.23, Michael Bane was 20th at 17:26.60, and junior Deam Simmons rounded out CM’s top five at 25th at 18:02.40. Connolly’s, Bane’s, and Simmons’ times were their fastest of the season.

Brian Wukitch ran 12:12.11 in the middle school 3K race, good enough for 11th place while Daniel Norton was the fastest Knight in the freshmen 3K, clearing the course in 13:12.59.

The Knights will enjoy some extra time between races as they won’t return to racing until November 6’s

MSTCA Frank Mooney Coaches Invitational at the Wrentham Developmental Center. The middle school team will compete at the Middle School State Championship Meet at Willard Field in Devens on the same day.
