West Roxbury, Mass.— A delegation of student leaders from Catholic Memorial School flew to Jacksonville, Florida, to meet with representatives from fellow Edmund Rice Christian Brothers Schools (ERCS) at the annual ACTION Workshop on Thursday morning.

The delegation consists of Dean Lebron of Roslindale, Jaden Woodard-Teneus of Randolph, and James O’Donovan of Plymouth; all juniors who best represent the ideals of Blessed Edmund Rice in-and-out of the classroom according to the school’s faculty and staff.

“Our three juniors are participating in the annual ACTION retreat as ambassadors of our school,” said Assistant Director of Campus Ministry Mr. Nicholas Genovese, who accompanied the students on the trip.

“Jaden, Dean, and Sean all exemplify Catholic Memorial’s mission of servant leadership and aim to share CM’s best programs to the larger network of Christian Brother Schools.”

For over 45 years, the ACTION Workshop hosts students from ERCS schools across the country. The workshop gives each school’s select leaders the tools needed to find their voice while learning new ways to better serve their community. Students meet in small groups, exchange ideas, and return to their respective schools with a new planned initiative.

This year’s delegation has a lot to share. Each student offers a variety of past experiences to choose from.

Dean and Jaden started their CM careers in the seventh grade. Both joined the Knights of the Round Table Diversity Club while finding their niche in the arts and on the athletic field. Dean plays baseball, performs in the poetry club, and participates on the forensics team. Jaden plays soccer, runs track, and serves as a Vice President of student government.

“From seventh grade, we’ve all evolved from one year to another through kinship as a whole,” said Dean, when asked about the impact of a Brother Edmund Rice education on him and his fellow classmates.

James, who entered CM during his freshman year, participates in forensics, drama, and A Capella. All three juniors serve active roles in the campus ministry Peer Ministry program.

Past ideas brought back from the ACTION retreat include the annual CM “Hunger Fest” fundraiser. “Hunger Fest” originated from an ERCS school in Florida. Students collect food donations while fasting over a 24 hour span. Today, it remains one of the premier fundraisers at CM.
