19 CM Student-Athletes Earn Catholic Conference All-Star Honors
West Roxbury, Mass. - Following Catholic Memorial's spring athletic season, 19 CM student-athletes were named Catholic Conference All-Stars in baseball, lacrosse, rugby, and track. In addition to the all-star selections, two CM juniors, Colin McGrath and Matt Freitas, were named by The Boston Globe as All-Scholastics in baseball and lacrosse, respectively. McGrath was selected as the Catholic Conference MVP after compiling a 5-1 record on the mound with a 1.11 ERA and key victories over conference rivals BC High, St. John’s Prep, and Xaverian. Freitas, co-starting goalie for the Knights lacrosse team, was also named to the 2018 Para Athlete All-Scholastic list. Freitas, a member of two varsity athletic programs at CM, had the lower part of his right leg amputated at age 11 following a car accident. In the winter, Freitas was the recipient of the CM wrestling program’s Keith Durham Heart and Soul Award. Freitas has verbally committed to play lacrosse at Williams College.
"We're proud of the accomplishments of these 19 student-athletes and we congratulate them for receiving this accolade," said CM Athletic Director Craig Najarian. "A recognition like this is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes. I also want to thank our coaches. Their commitment to excellence puts our student-athletes in a position to excel on the field," added Najarian.
