Catholic Memorial Holds 58th Commencement Exercises

WEST ROXBURY, Mass — The Catholic Memorial community gathered for its 58th commencement exercises on Thursday, May 24. Toàn Cao was this year's Salutatorian, and Harry Sullivan was the Valedictorian. President Dr. Peter F. Folan presented diplomas to 134 graduates at a ceremony held in Holy Name Church.

"The class of 2018 has done exceedingly well," said Folan. "Members of this graduating class were admitted to four out of the five colleges that they applied. A third of this class is attending the most selective schools in our nation. You are heading off to more than 50 different colleges across the United States and Canada. Fifty percent are attending our nation’s best Catholic colleges and universities. A good number of you are enrolling in the outstanding UMass system. Others have been accepted into amazing programs at Wentworth and Mass Maritime. You have set record-breaking numbers with more than $13 million awarded in scholarships and aid. This fall, some of you are starting apprenticeships, joining the Army, Navy, the Boston Police cadets, playing junior hockey, or going to prep school."

"We are proud of all of you. You should be proud of yourselves. Each of you has found a path that fits your interests and passions. This has always been our goal here. This has always been your parents’ goal."

On Commencement eve, June 8, Catholic Memorial hosted its annual Baccalaureate Mass in the Ronald S. Perry Gymnasium to present awards, and recognize scholars and standout graduates in all disciplines. A yearbook video was presented, and afterward, families moved to the Kennedy Commons for a reception.
