Freight Farm

The Freight Farm has opened up a whole new world to CM boys. In the Freight Farm, students learn about hydroponics or growing plants without soil. Students learn about water testing, water quality analysis, nutrient use, and plant physiology. The Freight Farm is not just for STEM students; it touches all areas of the CM community.

The Freight Farm calls to mind issues of social justice that are addressed in theology classes and throughout the CM experience. The Freight Farm also touches on issues beyond food access, like sustainable farming, business, and entrepreneurship.

Innovation Lab

The Innovation Lab features 3D printers, a laser cutter, white board tables, and a smart board. Teachers, of all disciplines, use this space to integrate technology and innovation into their curriculum.

Eighth graders design boats with CAD software and build the boats with PVC pipes and plastic siding, then test them on a launch on the Charles River.

Ninth grade students will learn to use CAD Software in relation with 3D printers to create prosthetic hands.

Innovation & Business

Working in teams, or “companies,” students are asked to create products that would change people’s lives for the better.  Each student is responsible for one idea, and the creation of a 3D computer model.  Students then identified what they thought were the most valuable ideas then brought them to life in the using 3D printers and CAD Software. Then they must pitch their products to a panel of judges in a Shark Tank style competition.
