A supportive and nurturing community

Our West Roxbury, MA middle school program is distinctive. We do not view our seventh and eighth graders through the same lens that we view our seniors. Our middle school students are on their way to our high school, but not there yet. In Donahue Hall, our students are presented with guidance to help them succeed academically, acclimate socially, and excel in our after-school programs. This guidance is carefully planned to instill independence in our students so they are prepared for our high school program. Some programs unique to our middle school allow us to achieve this.

Advisory Programs

List of 3 items.

  • Advisor-Advisee

Our small student body is divided further into advisory groups. These groups are comprised of 10-12 boys and each group is assigned to a faculty member who serves as its advisor for the school year. Monthly, the middle school holds advisor-advisee meetings where small group discussions focus on the importance of academics, fully engaging the Catholic Memorial experience, and the challenges of middle school. As part of this meeting, each student has a one-on-one conversation with his advisor.
  • Homework Club

Purpose: Homework Club provides students a supervised and structured place after school for students to complete homework, receive extra help for organization, and receive subject specific one on one tutoring.

Supervision: It is supervised by a faculty member after school.

Times: The Homework Club is available from 2:30-4:00pm Monday - Friday.
Structure: It is open to all students. However, some students are required to attend due to their academic performance.
  • Peer Ministry / Squires Program

Under the guidance of our Campus Minister, a select group of seniors and juniors serve as peer mentors or Squires to our middle school students. The Squires welcome our middle school students during orientation, facilitates class retreats, and serve as role models for our youngest students. In addition, each advisory group is also assigned a Squire who eats lunch with his group once per month. These lunch time conversations allow middle school students to hear advice about academics and positive decision-making from one of our upperclassmen.
