Young men are deeply relational learners and the connections made with faculty are critical to successful and transformational learning.
As a school that values relational teaching, the CM faculty engage students both inside and outside of the classroom. This makes a real difference in the lives of young men. To shape the lives of boys requires great and giving teachers, coaches, and educators who inspire and guide students with their whole being.
Through relationships and mentorship, students begin to articulate and define their aspirations, their hopes, and their dreams. Catholic Memorial School appreciates this dynamic and cultivates it to direct learning and identity development in all students. This close-knit relationship is possible because of our size. As the smallest school of our peer schools, CM faculty can engage more frequently with students in multiple settings.
A deep awareness into how young men learn points to the fact that students want to experience subject matter through active engagement, hands-on opportunities, constructivist learning, and dynamic interactions. Young men want to understand a concept’s relevance and want context as they solve complex problems. While it sounds stereotypical, boys like to get their hands dirty. At CM, we believe the best way of learning is by doing.
Students aren’t passive spectators in our classrooms. Teachers design lessons and use teaching methods to create energy and excitement in the classroom.
Hands-on
There is no better teacher than doing. Students have the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned. This hands-on approach ensures students understand the content and have mastered the skills we are trying to foster.
Relational
CM has a talented faculty. They are not just masters of their content; they are masters in the classroom as well. They know how to pique a student’s interest, challenge him to do his best, and mentor him to succeed.
Collaborative
Our student body is one of the most important aspects of our curriculum. The student body has a diverse background and brings diverse experience to the table. Working with one another allows our students to learn from one another.
