Peer Leadership
The Peer Ministry Program
The peer ministry program at Catholic Memorial is designed to train students in Catholic leadership practices. Peer ministers assist in coordinating our Campus Ministry events and act as mentors in our Squires Program for students in grades 7-9. Peer ministers are also required to enroll in a leadership course in his junior and senior year.
Leadership and Service
This junior course grounds students in Catholic ethics and provides a systematic approach to solving moral problems and forming conscience. Using Catholic morality as the foundation, students are then challenged to respond creatively to contemporary issues facing the school and the greater community. The first semester will introduce students to Catholic moral theology and ethical theory, and the second semester will engage students in applied ethics.
Catholic Leadership in a Global Marketplace
This senior course explores effective servant leadership in a global marketplace. Building on Leadership and Service, students will explore the Catholic foundations of social justice teachings and examine servant leadership in relation to other leadership models. Particular emphasis will be placed on the relationship between religion and public policy, the role of the church in the modern world, and the student’s individual capacity to produce lasting change. Participation in the senior service project is a central component to the course.
Squires Program
The Squires Program is a peer mentoring program between upperclassmen and students in grades 7, 8, and 9. Just as squires aid knights on their journeys, so our upperclassmen provide our younger knights with a resource for navigating CM on their own journeys. The goal of the program is to give students positive role models to help them excel educationally, to develop safe and healthy behaviors, to develop socially, and to help them become self sufficient.
