Joseph Wood is an accomplished administrator and educational consultant. In his career in education, he served as principal, then superintendent of schools in Berkshire Hills, MA and South Windsor, CT.
In his twenty years as head of the South Windsor schools, Wood oversaw the growth of the student body by nearly double and oversaw administrative restructuring to support such growth in the district east of Hartford. Because of his efforts, South Windsor was named in 2006 as one of America’s 100 best communities for young people.
After retiring in 2006, Wood founded Woodshed Educational Consulting in order to help school districts and superintendents better approach and prepare for systemic changes as they improve student learning. In describing his career, Wood quotes the Robert Frost adage, “’Education is hanging around until you’ve caught on.’ I’ve hung around long enough to catch on.”
