After graduating from CM, Richard Ring ’64 studied at College of the Holy Cross, where he played football and majored in English. After a term of service in the U.S. Navy, Ring joined with several individuals to found the Pine Street Inn, eventually serving as its executive director for twenty-five years.
After leaving that post in 1993, Ring eventually took on the role of executive director at Travelers’ Aid Family Services, the primary responder to homeless families in need throughout the city. For his service to Boston over the past four decades, Ring has received several honors and accolades, and appears regularly in print as an expert on the needs of the homeless.
“Various alumni of CM will inevitably come back to the key figures who were present in our lives, like Brother McKenna,” said Ring. “But it was the whole mix—some of the Christian Brothers who were there, lay teachers and athletic coaches--all of these people addressed life with such integrity and with such principle.”
