Fr. Phillips has devoted a career of service to the Maryknolls and is recognized as one of the leading voices on health care in the world. After attending Boston College, Fr. Phillips studied for the priesthood and was ordained in 1974. He served as an administrator for the Maryknolls in Chicago before heading to Africa, where he served as a chaplain, English teacher and Pastor in Tanzania and Kenya over the past three decades.
In 1993, Fr. Phillips founded and became managing director of the Eastern Deanery AIDS Relief Program in Nairobi, Kenya. After his success in combating the spread of HIV, he was invited to speak at conferences around the world, serve on committees for the Vatican and the Kenyan government and participate in research and fundraising efforts for AIDS relief.
Fr. Phillips has served on the board of the International Catholic Health Association, the Disaster Relief Committee of the Kenyan Red Cross and the Eastern Deanery AIDS Relief Program. In 2011, he moved to Hong Kong to work with Maryknoll missions there and throughout China.
