Jim Carey ‘92
Former NHL Goalie and 1996 Vezina Trophy Winner
President/CEO, OptiMED Billing Solutions, Inc.

After a standout career for CM, Jim Carey ’92 went on to play hockey for the University of Wisconsin. In that same year, he was drafted by the Washington Capitals, the highest drafted goalie that year.

Carey made his NHL debut in 1995, earning a solid record and All-Rookie status in his first year. In his second season, he earned a 2.26 GAA in 71 games for the Capitals, was selected to the NHL’s First All-Star Team and earned the coveted Vezina Trophy in 1996. Carey is one of only four Americans to have hoisted that trophy.

Carey went on to play for the Boston Bruins and the St. Louis Blues before retiring in 1999 to Sarasota, FL. There, he founded OptiMed Billing Solutions, Inc., a leader in the medical billing-practice management field.
