Middle School Music
The Middle School's music program is designed to immerse 8th grade students into a curriculum which provides a solid foundation in the fundamentals of basic music theory, choral singing and an overall understanding of general music and music principles.

The topics covered throughout the year include music theory; the role of the conductor in a choral group; scales; music and the radio; theatrical music; composers throughout history; and the history and development of musical instruments. Students have one public performance during the year, that being the annual Catholic Memorial Christmas Concert performed at Holy Name School.
Middle School students are encouraged to participate in the many fine arts clubs and groups which CM offers. Middle School students are members of The JazzMen (CM's instrumental jazz ensemble), the Liturgical Choir, the Chamber Ensemble (a smaller classical-based instrumental group), and the annual spring musical. Students in the Middle School also are members of the Middle School Forensics Team and have performed roles in both the fall and spring plays. Middle School students have also performed instrumentally at our monthly all-school liturgies.
Each year more opportunities for new fine arts groups/ensembles arise. And every year, more and more students become involved in the many opportunities offered. The future is very bright and the ideas and goals for the Fine Arts program appear endless. The growth of the music program from the beginning of the Middle School curriculum fifteen years ago until now has been astounding, and it continues to grow more and more every year.
