Topics include numbers and equations; decimals and problem-solving; computing with fractions; ratios, proportions and percents; geometry and measurement; and computing with rational numbers. Also, the following topics are explored as preparation for grade 8: exponents, scientific notation, and right triangle relationships.
In grade 8, there is a reinforcement of basic skills through the following topics: number patterns, equations and integers; decimals, exponents and metrics; fractions, mixed numbers, and graphs; geometry and measurements; and proportions, percents and applications. Students work in pre-algebra by means of: signed numbers, exponential numbers, sets and systems, Euclidean geometry, plane and three dimensional geometry, ratios, proportions, percents, square foots, right triangles, trigonometry, and coordinate graphing.
Algebra I is offered to advanced math students who have demonstrated proficiency in pre-algebra skills and have shown a high level of mathematical computation.
