Middle School Career Exploration

Career exploration is a major component of the Middle School Program at CM. By exposing students to a wide variety of careers, we hope to further their understanding of the importance of education. At this age, students are beginning to identify their talents and plan for their futures. Many students wish to pursue specific careers, but do not fully understand what each entails, or even which classes to take i n high school to be adequately prepared. Each year, seventh and eighth graders attend Career Day to aid in their vocational discovery.

This day brings professionals from a vast array of occupations to the school to speak about their daily work routines, factors that le d to their profession and skills that can be developed now by our students. Career Day works to inform our students of the skills needed to be successful not only in a career, but in life. Although our teachers emphasize these skills every day, hearing about the importance of public speaking, effective writing, critical analysis, and organization from an “outside source” helps to make the message more pertinent. By promoting an assortment of professions, we hope to encourage each and every student in their career exploration.
The Middle School has held Career Days since 1993. These day long events boasts a wide range of speakers, most of whom are parents of boys at the school. Past speakers have included:
